Marti is a western Canadian artist who makes her home in southern Alberta, and travels from there to study under various artists and to show her work in galleries and shows throughout Canada and the United States.

She spent her first thirteen years in a small town in Saskatchewan where she spent many hours with her brothers and sisters around a big kitchen table doing what they loved most–drawing. At ten years old, two of her drawings were chosen for an international tour of schools around the world, and she was commissioned to do her first portrait at the age of 14. She won many awards for her art in school and later in life when she began to take her talent more seriously. After returning to school at thirty to study architectural technology, she worked as a residential designer until her children were grown. In 1986, studying and working at night, she received her Diploma of Art with highest honors. Now she devotes all her time to her art, and strives always to better her technique while learning to express herself more creatively. She has traveled several times to Portland, Oregon to study under world-renowned sculptor and painter, Lorenzo Ghiglieri. Marti has illustrated several books and had her work published in magazines and brochures. As well, she has done cultural research and paintings for a group of Kurdish political refugees in 1991 to help finance the emigration of these people during the Middle East war with Iraq. She is fascinated by working in this way with other cultures, and it lends an empathic quality to her work. Her paintings and sculptures are in collections all over the world.

It is Marti’s sincere hope that her true love of people, animals and all nature will be visible in each work of art, for this is what she strives for in each and every one of her creations.

She works from her home in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where she also teaches drawing basics, acrylic and oil painting, and basic sculpture.
